My Introduction to Books
I first became involved in selling books in the 1970s when I helped Merlin's Cave at the Mind, Body, Spirit Festivals in London. My interest in esoteric subjects and books grew from there, and in the late 1980s I was manager of the Theosophical Society Bookshop near the British Museum. There I met my wife. She had worked in other bookshops, and had a particular interest in esoteric subjects. 

1990 Opening the Business - Esoteric Titles
Several customers wanted out-of-print titles, so when we left London in 1990 and moved to York, we set up our own business selling second-hand esoteric books.

1998 Expanding the Business - Railways
My love of railways started as a child, and I worked as an apprentice fitter on the steam engines of the Southern railway at Redhill, Surrey. It has been a lifelong interest. When we moved to a larger house in Brecon in 1998, it was an ideal opportunity to expand my stock and sell second-hand railway books.

Michael Rainger Books - the New Millennium
Being near Hay-on-Wye offers me a unique opportunity to find titles for my customers, and add to my specialist stock. Our stock is constantly changing, and I send out catalogues on each subject at least three times a year. 

Although most of my books are sent out by mail order, some customers call in if they are in the area. Please telephone first to make sure we are in!
